Do you Primary or Caucus?
Over the last century, states have required political parties to let their members participate in the selection of their nominees as a way to prevent “men in smoke-filled rooms” from making these important decisions. The result: a hodgepodge of unique caucuses and open, closed and semi-closed primaries running from January into June. It all begins when Iowans caucus on February 3rd and New Hampshire holds the first primary on February 11th. “Super Tuesday” is March 3. Eventually, through this process by mid-2020, a Democratic nominee will emerge to face President Trump, the presumptive choice of the Republicans.
