Looking to make the move to senior living, but have some questions you need answers to before taking the plunge? We answer some of your FAQs about independent living and assisted living in this guide.

Is Independent Senior Living or Assisted Senior Living More Suitable for Me?

The most important question to ask yourself when deciding between independent living and assisted living is: do you require assistance with daily living tasks, such as bathing, grooming, and dressing? Do you need help to get around, or with medication and continence management? If the answer is yes, assisted living is more suitable for you. Besides the assistance that will be provided, independent and assisted living residents can enjoy many of the same services and amenities in our community, including taking part in the same activities and events.

I Am Fit and Healthy – How Will Independent Senior Living Benefit Me?

While independent living is for residents who can get about their daily lives without assistance, one huge benefit of moving into a senior living community is the warm and welcoming environment you can find here. If aging in place has made you a victim of social isolation, you will know that finding opportunities to get out, meet new people and do things can be limited. On top of that, you may not have the energy or ability to attend to the responsibilities of homeownership, such as housekeeping and maintenance. Independent living takes all the burdens off your shoulders and provides you with a safe and secure environment in which to live your best life.

What Activities Are Available in a Retirement Community?

The best part about life at Discovery Village At Boynton Beach is that no two days are the same. You can start each day doing what you choose to, whether that is relaxing poolside, attending a yoga class, or simply taking it slow in your apartment home. Although meals are served at fixed times and assisted living residents will find that a staff member will pop by to help you with certain tasks according to a schedule, the rest of your time is yours to do with as you wish. Whether you choose to go on one of our regularly scheduled trips, play card games with neighbors or attend a movie screening, there’s always something to do both in and out of our community!

Will I Have Privacy and Personal Space in a Retirement Community?

Absolutely – at Discovery Village At Boynton Beach, you can choose from one of the many floor plans we have available for our independent and assisted living residents. Our housekeeping team will come by weekly to make sure your living environment is kept clean and assisted living residents can expect staff members to pop by to help with accomplishing daily living tasks. The rest of the time, you have the option of staying in your apartment when you wish to, whether you are just taking a day to yourself or would like some time to relax. You may even choose to prepare your own meals from time to time instead of popping down to our elegant dining rooms!
