Wonderful, 5 stars to Bridget, Wellness Director who has her office directly in the caregiver center where she supervises each care staff, med tech, and nurse! This facility is self managed without outside, expensive management teams. Directors are long term employees seen daily within the resident halls managing the facility! Don't be fooled by other highly decorated facilities that don't deliver computer monitored pendant systems that call a supervisor when left undone (or simply just turned off), blister packed medications delivered by med techs, multiple Directors on duty within the resident halls, and happy family members visiting! I am on facebook as JDianeMartinJunker if anyone needs an ear from someone who 'learned the hard way' and has had to move parents from another Sarasota facility that simply would not resident hall supervise, nor even listen to concerned family members reviews who have had to go through the expense and mental anguish of moving elderly family to another facility! Its a very hard industry to staff, but Bridget at Discovery has found the only supervisory model that can work. Thank you Bridget and especially caregiver Kim!

I do musical entertainment at retirement homes. I’ve been in nearly 3 dozen facilities in Manatee and Sarasota counties. I can tell you first hand that there are 3 main things I notice when I’m inside a retirement home:1. Are the facilities nice and functional? Sometimes I can tell that the structure has been converted from some other use. Sometimes the hallways are dark and lifeless. Discovery Village is not a “retread” building but one designed for the pleasant home of some elderly folks.2. Are the staff caring and capable? Walk into some properties and there’s a distinct smell. I blame that on the neglect of the staff. They are supposed to care for these precious souls. The staff at Discovery Village appear to care deeply for every individual. The place smells like home, not an institution.3. Are there things to do or is the most exciting activity available watching the Price Is Right. I speak from experience, they have great internal programs and they bring in outside entertainment, like me.Discovery Village at Sarasota Bay gets my highest marks on all 3 of my criteria. It’s a great place.

One of the biggest challenges a family has is finding a place for Mom and Dad when they can no longer live alone. We screened and visited numerous senior communities and Discovery Village at Sarasota Bay was by far our top choice. Discovery Village offers so many options for their residents to keep them active. The building is beautiful and welcoming. The living space was bright and very accommodating. The care staff were wonderful. They attended to mom and dad's every need in a very loving way. My parents adjusted very quickly and developed many friendships among the residents and staff. The management at Discovery Village is incredible. There is a "can do" attitude and any and all questions, concerns and requests are addressed along with a follow up if needed. Discovery Village management's top priority is the residents an extends to their family. I would highly recommend I Discovery village! Steve Ruhnke

Spent time here visiting my grandparents. It was very clean and the staff were very kind. I always enjoyed the time I spent here with my family.

I absolutely loved volunteering here. The activities director in memory care was amazing, and the staff that work in both memory care and assisted living are so kind and helpful. I can't wait until I'm able to go back!

Initially my stepsons found the memory care department at Discovery Village at Sarasota Bay. I found it to be professional and caring. With plain good people!

Discovery Village is a beautiful facility. My visit there was wonderful. It was updated, clean, & welcoming. Food was delicious and they had many options to choose from. The residents were busy all day in fun creative activities. Whether Independent/Assisted or Memory care. They always had something going on. The Director Susan Coblentz of Memory care keeps her residents on their toes with puzzles, word games, sing-a-longs, crafts, parties, movies & more. Lots of things to challenge their minds and keep them happy. She goes out of her way to treat each person like a member of her own family. I highly recommend this facility for your loved one.

My parents moved to Discovery Village during the summer of 2020, in the middle of the pandemic. I was rather concerned with the timing of their move, but due to the highest level of safety protocols, they have remained safe and well. The only people they could engaged with for their first several months there were the staff, and my parents kept telling me how welcoming, caring and kind everyone was being to them. What's more, since I have not been able to see my parents for over a year now (we live in Kansas City), Don and Ashley have been just amazing and have gone above & beyond to help me stay connected with my parents. They help us with FaceTime calls and they did all the set up for a gift I sent my parents, delivered it to them and send me pics of them opening it. <3 I have been so happy with the level of safety, care, and kindness that they have received there.

Can't thank the staff enough for everything they have done to welcome my Grandparents, provide them with the proper care & respect they deserve. Finally, our family can rest easy knowing they're in good hands. Discovery has been informative, communicative & caring to Us & to my Grandparents who live in Memory Care.

Compassion, dignity, loving, caring, clean are the words I would describe Discovery Village. My parents are in memory care at this facility. We moved them six months ago from another local facility. After abuse and neglect experienced, our family is thrilled with Discovery and Mom and Dad are healthy and happy today. They are loved, as well as enjoy the fun activities that are planned. Our family is so thankful for the beauty of this facility, but also the care they receive.

At the time of this review, both my grandpa and grandma have been at Discovery Village approximately six months, having come there from a different assisted living facility. My grandparents are very well taken care of at Discovery. On top of the good day-to-day care they receive, they comment to us about how much they like the staff. The staff demonstrates that they care. Discovery takes a thoughtful, practical approach to caring for my grandparents, communicating with our family as needed, and (most importantly) treating my grandparents like "people" rather than "old people." They are treated with respect, and our family greatly appreciates it.

Mom has called Discovery Village Home for over four years. The staff are kind, pleasant and knowledgeable. The physical environment is beautiful, clean and inviting. Would recommend Discovery Village of Sarasota Bay to others looking for Senior Living options.

Discovery Village at Sarasota Bay‘s facilities are fabulous. It’s uplifting to the spirit just being surrounded by the beauty of the grounds, halls, spacious common areas, dining rooms and every other nook and cranny of this place which I, in a brief period, already feel at home. The management staff are friendly, always ready to help and competent. The aides have been caring and responsive. The many activities offered fill the day. The food is delicious. I have and would again without hesitation highly recommend Discovery Village to my family and friends.

Moved my dad here about 2 years ago into assisted living. The place is clean and welcoming. My dad chose a one bedroom one bath apartment and the layout was perfect for him. He is now in The Gardens (Memory care) and although his apartment is a bit smaller he still loves it there and is cared for round the clock. Of course nothing is perfect in life and we all must keep that in mind when choosing (or helping our loved ones choose) a retirement home. I visit my dad daily so I see this place running all the time and at different hours of the day and I find that the staff are very courteous and welcoming and you can tell that the care given there is good because the residents are generally happy and out and about throughout the day. I have been especially impressed with the response to this year's pandemic of Covid-19 as every possible precaution has been made to keep the residents and staff healthy and Covid free. Although the precautions (everywhere) have been a hassle at times the fact that I did not have to worry about my dad was worth every "frustration". Kudos to everyone there for all their hard work! My only reason as to why I couldn't give a full 5 stars is because I feel that the communication between staff could be better and the communication with family members (especially those of us with family in memory care) could be better. Otherwise, we have been very pleased with my dad living here.

My father moved in here a few months back and we've been so pleased by the friendliness and exceptional team members and the personal interest they take in their residents. Rene is simply one of the best representatives of the facility and a truly special person. These are never easy decisions, but we are very glad my Dad made this choice.

Be warned! Communication is NON-existant. We moved our loved one there a while ago and we have yet to connect with anyone in nursing regarding her care - our voicemails and emails go completely unanswered. We had a minor emergency this past weekend and could get a hold of NO ONE - went straight to an answering machine (not even an answering service). Craziness! It seems they are horribly understaffed. Not good. Our experience started out horribly but ended perfectly. After management changed, everything improved ten-fold. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating nor treated my aunt with more respect in her final days.UPDATE: If you "truly are the Owner" who responded below...perhaps you could provide us with your email so that we can forward you the conversation we had with your ED this morning. Thanks for her phone number. She didn't provide that. But then again, she hasn't replied to our email either....Second Update: Since this all began, it seems staff changes have been made and things are slowly improving. They still don't have some aspects of the facility "up and running" so to speak, but I do have to give them credit for responding and working to make it better. Good to see.

Excellent place with caring, professional staff and well managed. We feel fortunate that my uncle is being well cared for here! Communication between the staff and my mother (who is POA for my uncle) has been frequent and complete. They have been very responsive to any issues or requests.

My parents moved in over two months ago and they love it. I can already see their sense of well-being has improved greatly. The staff, residents and property are great.

My Mom, Gladys Speth (room 110) was one of the 1st to move into her new facility about 3 months ago. As our family are very close, and watch over our Mom continually, we wanted the best for her. We at first was not sure this was the right move for her or us. I can say that after 4 weeks at Discovery Village our minds were at ease. Mom has made friends, and could not be any happier with all that Discovery Village has to offer. From the time Mom wakes up in the morning for breakfast, she is on the go doing something. The staff is always on point in taking care of our Mom, which makes my sisters and brother feel comfortable in the atmosphere we have put her in. The staff administers her medicine promptly 3 times a day, which was a big concern for us. I guess I could ramble on and on about Discovery Village and all the amenities it has to offer our Mom. The most important thing I will say before ending, is Mom is happy, and with that said, We all "win". Thanks Discovery Village for making our Mom special. Please continue to strive for excellence.
